Oskar Werner's character
Originally asked by Corinne: I indeed have many questions to rest(pose) you on Oskar, then to begin I am going you to put one: What was Oskar's character? If I ask you for it, it is because I read several times on internet that it was not easy to live. Is this truth? I thank you, in advance, for your answer. Bye for now!

This is surely not easy to answer... mostly not for people who didn't know him personally. I think he was very straight. He said what he thought. He didn't care what people thought about him, no matter if they were producers, directors, politicians or whatever. He had ideals, and never gave them up. He believed in them. Sure, for other people it was not always easy to work or live with him. A person who says things directly, works only the way he thinks is the right way, doesn't make it easier for others, nor for himself. Just my impression.

Thank you for your answer and I read articles on him which went to tone sens:I learnt that he was against the nuclear power, that he had left the army during the second world war because he was against the ideas of the Nazism and when I learnt it I realized that the history(story) of the film " decision before dawn " was close to his! My sister then said me: " it was someone the good! ". Yes, I think that my sister and you were right, it was a straight(right) person. I have another question: What was the role which he preferred to play the cinema? Thank you, in advance, for your answer and bye for now!

I think that it was good that he was that way, even if some people did not like it too much. It is better for someone to be straightforward with how they feel than to hold it inside, and never tell anyone.

Sometimes it's good, but not always. Sure you do say everything straight forward, but some day, you'll lose friends, and may end up mostly alone, and I think that is what he did. Sure, he was not totally alone, he also wanted to be alone, but I think he must have been sometimes very sad with the result of his straightforwardness. Though he may not have realized it as what it was. But, I am only guessing.

You are right, of course. I was thinking that it would not be good to hold bitterness and bad feelings inside all of the time, but it is not a good thing to always express your feelings, because they might hurt somebody. Sometimes it is good to tell people what you think, and sometimes it is best to wait and be quiet. :D

Nici- 12-28-2007

Exactly. But I think sometimes it's hard to stay quiet... sometimes you talk without thinking...

Yes, I talk a lot, so I do that rather often.

:) I believe he was outspoken because of the situation he grew up in. Think about it...If more people had the nerve to speak their minds, the terrible things that happened to the Jews and to some others, as well, might not have happened. If one holds their piece, it is often taken as consentment...when it actually might not be. The fact that he was a strong believer in voicing his opinions is one of the things I respect so much about him.
