Hello Everyone!
Hello Nici, Pamela,Tina, Suzanne, and everyone else that is here to honor the Great Oskar Werner.
I'm so glad to see my good friend Pamela Hall is here. I've known Pamela for several years and she has been so kind to share with us her personal friendship that she had with Oskar.
I've known Nici for a couple of years and she has worked very hard building these sites to honor Oskar. Thank you for all of your hard work Nici. We all love you!
I'm looking forward to meeting other new friends here that all share the same love for Oskar as well. My favorite film of all time is Fahrenheit 451 and I will be sharing all that I have learned about this beautiful film.
Hi! It is so nice to meet you. :D My name is Sarah, and I, also, am a huge fan of Oskar Werner!
Thank you Sarah. Its my pleasure to meet you as well. I'm a huge Fahrenheit 451 fan.
I LOVED Farenheit 451, but like I've already said elsewhere, Decision Before Dawn is my favorite. I think because it is the first one I ever saw. There is something special about your first movie with Oskar.
Hi Montag!
Nice to see you over here now too!!! Thanks for your very kind words.

I hope so too, but if she visits OW Online, and clicks at "Forum" she will end up here. Let's hope. ;)

Hello Marie-Jeanne and Welcome. We are all fans of Oskar and look forward to discussing him with you.
Thank you Montag, and good evening (it's the nigth in France).
Excuse-me if my English is not good but I try.
I went on the other forum and I asked :
"OW measured how much? Was high in size?"
So Pamela answered me :
Hello, mariejean, and welcome to the Forum.
Oskar is said, in the publicity of his time, to be 5'9", he may have been slightly more or less.
Whatever his physical height might have been, his genius makes him tower over almost all other actors I have seen. There is no actor whose private, personal name and identity does not jump to one's mind, no matter how short the time, when he first comes on stage or screen. With Oskar there is not one "nano second" (a term he would not have understood!) when his own identity precedes the character's. That is genius for you.
After I wrote :
Thank you for your answer and you're very nice. I'm a French woman and I don't speak English since 30 years ago. Excuse me if I have some difficulties to write what I mean as I should like.
I knew Oskar not great by the size of his body, and I had thaought that 1,75 mètre in french (with the converter) , like you say about it. But I always knew his greatness in his art and his talent, also when he was doing something. He gives with his heart, in his art and in life when he given. I know that since 33 years ago or more. I admired his art, his work on stage with his characters. But I never dared to write. After you have read, I now regret. I could tell him. A lot of people liked what he was doing. He was an actor who provided light with him on stage or in films, with his physical and his interpretation in harmony together. He was him : he was true. He was true in his voice, in his words, and certainely in his writting where he put the tone that it came from the depths of his. I'm sad for the end of his life because he was so "formidable" !
I have not followed what he was doing because there was no Internet as today. I did not know when he was dead. When I knew it, I have been slow to be able to watch his pictures or his image, or read what was wrotten on him. He is one of those artists that we can't accpete not to see, because we want his memory continue ti live and stay in our thinking.
And about "to be or not to be", we can say about him "he was because he was true".
I agree with you. Thank you for being here and thanks to this forum to enable our meeting around Oskar. Thank you what you give in memory of Oskar, Pamela. I'm very happy that you wrote to him and you knew him so well, because today you can explain many things about him so important to continue and make his memory.

Thanks for sharing that with everyone Marie-Jeanne. I too did not know that Oskar had passed away when it it happened. I think he is one of the true masters of his craft and hope his memory stays alive forever through his art. He touched many lives while he was living and I'm sure he will continue to do so in spirit. If he could see this place and all of the wonderful people here....I'm certain that he would smile upon them.
Good evening from France,
Good evening Montag,
I write also my answer in French (after, see next) and English. So if a personn who doesn’t understand English, can read and understand exactly what I say about Oskar. I hope that is not unpleasant for you.
Of course, Oskar would have a big smile to see this beautiful website and a so sympathetic forum. He would be very happy to see that all his work is appreciated, and we are trying to understand, beyond time, his work, and all his good actions, and his art in theater or in cinema. He has given so much from him, he has given his heart and his soul, because like he said, he lived with. He lived for. He was and he is an example of a person to monitor and take like a light : he was true with himself and he was true in his way and in what he want to do.
But it is a pity that there is no information in French about Oskar, like here on this forum or on the site. Many personnes who don't speak English or German, are unable to understand. The translator is not true to interpretation.
I should like to know much more about Oskar. Sometimes when you know someone for a long time and that the occupations of your life do not keep an eye out, and you come back some years later, sometimes too late, there is a sense of having missed something and not arrive on time before he is gone.
It’s very well and nice what people give here in memory of Oskar, and I want to ask: "Please, I want to know more! How he was in life, how was his character? Was he happy and sensitive? Etc ... Please, I should see Oskar to live in your words, again, again, because he had an extraordinary personality and now just you can make live Oskar with your words."
I know how he was, more or less, but I want to say: "I should feel more alive, it means even more to meet him, against time which makes missed him. I should like to discover the lines of his all personality, much more than the general outline that we can read or see about him."
I listened to some of his recitations in German. I do that too few German, but I found translations of some texts, and I have the German texts and French texts together, better feel for the depth of its meaning through words. It’s a difficult exercise, but I think it was the desire for a meeting with him in his work, which I tried to do.
Oskar remain besides the time, a person who had an incredible force. I think he did go to the people before he approached, because he was someone who gave to go deeper, and those who are approaching today through memories, feel it. This is what I can say at the moment.

Amicalement
There are some interviews with Oskar that were in magazines. You may find some of those on the internet. I think Tina may be able to help you find them.
Thank you Montag, and I thank Tina for the assistance she will give me.

Hello Marie-jeanne, I was able to read your message to me. I hope that this will post, I understand how you feel about journalist's interpretation of OW. I recommend a book by Serge Toubiana, a biography of Truffaut. There are some reactions to OW. In the back, in the notes there is a letter that OW wrote to Truffaut, regarding a time when OW wanted Truffaut's help. It is very revealing. I might have a copy of this letter. Best wishes, Tina
